Today’s society is increasingly more dependent on technology. Smartphones, tablets, and other devices are changing the way we communicate with others, the way that we do business, and the way that we gather and disperse information. To help you stay up to date, we’ll take a look at three easy things that you can do in order to get the most out of your phone.
Security
One of the most important things you can do is make sure your phone is secure from thieves, hackers, and any other ne’er-do-wells. At the most basic level you should make sure your phone is password protected (and not with a 1-2-3-4 password). You can also install anti-virus software on your phone (since it is, in at the basic level, a small computer) and make sure that you have a track and wipe clean option in case your phone is stolen. Also make sure your phone is synced to your computer so all your information is backed up.
Battery
There’s nothing worse than having a phone that needs to be continuously plugged in. To conserve your battery , dim your phone screen, decrease the amount of time before your screen timeout, turn off your vibrator, close all your unnecessary apps, and minimize your notifications.
You also want to make sure you charge your battery correctly. Part of that includes knowing what type of battery is used by your smartphone. NiCd batteries should only be charged when they are close to depletion while Li-Ion should be charged as frequently as possible in order to keep the original capacity.
Cleanliness
To keep you phone working at its peak, make sure you regularly clean it. Part of this involves freeing up the storage space on your phone, which will allow it to run faster. The easiest way to increase your storage space is to remove unnecessary files and programs. Sync your phone to cloud storage, and backup all your necessary files, such as photos and videos. Once they are backed up in your cloud storage, you can remove them from your phone.
Once you have removed all your backed up files, the next step to cleaning your phone is to remove all the apps that you no longer use. As a general rule of thumb, if you haven’t used it in at least 6 months, you can delete it from your phone.
If your phone is completely clogged and bogged down, the quickest solution is to issue a factory reset. This will take your back to its original condition, deleting all downloaded apps and programs and removing all your files.
